STE-AD had the honor and pleasure of being invited to reside on the Architecture jury panel at the MArch 1 Crit at Chu Hai College of Higher Education last week.
The students presented projects developed based on the project brief entitled: Food for the City – Low Carbon ‘Foodprint’. The project was set in Tsing Yi, Hong Kong, under several overpass bridges and required the prospective Architects to develop a scheme to use the site for Urban Farming and/or Fisheries.
The projects on display show an applaudable level of research and analysis in regard to how the site may or may not be suitable for a range of Urban Farming and Fishery techniques. The topic is on point as the recurring theme was that of large cities, like Hong Kong, not being able to sustain their own food production requirements and the implications of that fact during a pandemic scenario. This could be a compounding issue in the future with symptoms of climate change increasing in severity and so it is inspiring to reinvestigate the possibilities in our projects as well as our everyday lives.
Congrats to the students and professors at Chu Hai College of Higher Education, Department of Architecture on a job well done – we are looking forward to seeing what comes next year!
